Based on lawsuits filed last year, the subprime crisis is vastly outpacing the litigation following the S&L crisis litigation of the early 1990s. Navigant Consulting just put out a recent study which shows the number of subprime-related cases from 2007 already equals half of the total 559 S&L cases handled by the Resolution Trust Corporation over many years. The second half of 2007 showed a dramatic increase, some 50%, over the first half of 2007 as the subprime mortgage meltdown really started to boil.
